In the year of openings 2025,PM Deputy for Industrial Development and SCZONE Chairman witness the trial operation of the RSCT at Sokhna Port Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, and Mr.
Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), witnessed the ceremony to start the trial operation of the first phase of the Red Sea Container Terminal (RSCT) project, the newest and largest container terminal in Sokhna Port, affiliated with SCZONE, which is operated by the Chinese company (Hutchison) – one of the largest port operators in the world – within the global shipping lines alliance COSCO-CMA.
It is being developed to become one of the largest container terminals in Egypt, with a total length of berths of 2.6 km in two phases. The length of the first phase’s berth is 1.2 km, and the total area of the two phases reaches 1.6 million square metres, with a capacity of up to 3.5 million equivalent containers annually.
The terminal can receive giant commercial ships with lengths of up to about 400 metres. The celebration ceremony was attended by: Mr. Clemens Chang, Chairman of Hutchison Company, Mr. Kaho Wong, Executive Director of (RSCT), Mr. Torsten Mayer, Commercial Director of CMA TH, Mr.
Fan Guo, General Manager of COSCO, and Mrs. Kanzi Al-Dafrawi, the official judge of the Guinness Book of World Records, in addition to several SCZONE’s executive leaders and companies’ representatives. The activities of the trial operation of the Red Sea Container Terminal (RSCT) at Sokhna Port included the arrival of the first ship to the terminal’s berths, which is the container ship (CMA CGM HELIUM).
The attendees inspected the station’s control room and learned about the room’s working mechanism and its role in controlling the 6 giant dock cranes (STS), which are giant handling cranes capable of handling ships with large loads. They are also an essential element for accelerating the container handling cycle and raising performance efficiency at the station, in addition to the 18 automatic yard cranes (RTG Cranes), which operate fully automatically inside the yards and rely on smart systems to locate and arrange containers.
A souvenir photo for the attendees followed this, then they went to attend the press conference during which Ms. Kanzi Al-Dafrawi, the official arbitrator of the Guinness Book of World Records, announced; The official arbitrator announced the success of Sokhna Port in passing the requirements of the record (the deepest man-made port basin – that is, what is dug inside the land -) with a depth of 19 metres, and the commemorative shield was received by Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport.
