Egypt exported 3,800 food consignments weighing a total of 160,000 tons during the week from Aug 8 to 14, according to the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA)'s weekly report. The exports were shipped by 1,475 companies and covered about 654 food products, including vegetables and tubers, fruits, preserved fruit and vegetable preparations, flour and grain products, and other food items, NFSA said in its 30th weekly report of 2026.
Vegetable exports covered 40 products totaling 36,000 tons. Sweet potatoes topped the list at 13,000 tons, followed by onions at 7,000 tons and potatoes at 4,000 tons. Fruit exports comprised 32 products totaling 30,000 tons. Strawberries led with 10,000 tons, followed by citrus fruits and mangoes at 6,000 tons each.
Saudi Arabia was the largest destination for Egyptian food exports during the week, followed by Sudan, Libya, Spain and the US, among 181 importing countries, NFSA added. Safaga Port handled the largest number of food export consignments, with 775, followed by Damietta with 445 and Alexandria with 440.
Meanwhile, Egypt received 2,002 food consignments weighing about 176,000 tons, imported by 871 companies. Imports included wheat, various oils and soybeans. Russia was the largest source of food imports to Egypt during the week, followed by Indonesia, the US, China and Malaysia, among 84 countries that supplied food products to the Egyptian market.
Alexandria Port handled the largest number of incoming food consignments, with 696, followed by Cairo International Airport with 390 and Port Said with 250.
