The food industries chamber of the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) called for harmonized regulatory frameworks across Africa to support food innovation, attract investment and strengthen the continent's global competitiveness. Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the African task force on modernizing food innovation regulations, hosted in Cairo by the National Food Safety Authority, FEI Vice Chairperson Rana Gamaly said Africa's rich biodiversity, agricultural resources and traditional knowledge require science-based, transparent regulatory systems that encourage innovation rather than fragmented legislation.
She stressed that flexible regulations would enhance investor confidence, facilitate intra-African trade and enable the responsible introduction of innovative food products while ensuring consumer safety. The meeting, attended by representatives from more than 15 African and Asian countries, is expected to produce a roadmap with practical recommendations for more efficient regulatory systems aiming at advancing food security, sustainable development and the competitiveness of Africa's food industry.
