Egypt's Food Export Council (FEC) said the food industries sector ranked third among the country's non-petroleum export sectors in 2025, recording exports worth approximately $6.8 billion and accounting for nearly 14% of total non-oil exports. The council added that agricultural crop exports reached around dlrs 4.7 billion during the same year, representing nearly 9% of Egypt's non-petroleum exports.
It highlighted the strategic role of agricultural and food value chains in strengthening the national economy and increasing foreign currency inflows. The remarks were made during the council's participation in the "Export Readiness and Landscape Workshop" organized by the Commercial International Bank (CIB) at its headquarters in Smart Village.
During the workshop, the FEC presented the concept of the "Export Journey" as a comprehensive process consisting of several interconnected stages, starting with assessing a company’s export readiness, identifying priority markets, developing products in line with market requirements, reaching potential buyers, managing export procedures, and establishing sustainable trade relationships.
The council emphasized that selecting target export markets should be based on reliable data, market studies, and careful analysis of available opportunities, rather than random decisions. It pointed to the importance of evaluating demand, competition, pricing, distribution channels, and customs and technical requirements in each market.
It further explained that preparing products for export requires compliance with international quality and food safety standards, adapting packaging and labeling to meet market requirements, and obtaining the necessary certifications required by destination countries.
The council also reviewed the operational stages of the export process, including receiving purchase orders, negotiating with importers, determining prices and contractual terms, arranging payment methods, preparing shipping documents, selecting appropriate transportation options, and maintaining customer relations to build long-term trade partnerships.
