Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat praised the excellent cooperation and successful partnerships with the Norwegian global company Scatec, which possesses extensive international expertise in developing and implementing renewable energy projects.
This cooperation falls within the framework of the strategy to deploy renewable energy uses and expand battery energy storage systems to maximize the benefit from solar and wind plants to cope with peak times and high loads. He added that there is continuous follow-up on renewable projects to ensure linkage to the grid according to set schedules.
He noted that the national energy strategy aims to accelerate current projects and introduce new ones to increase the share of renewable energy in the energy mix to 45% by 2028 instead of 42% by 2030. During the meeting, they reviewed the progress of the plant's 500-megawatt second phase, scheduled to connect to the grid within the coming weeks as part of the timeline to introduce new solar and wind capacities this summer.
