Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat conducted a field visit on Saturday, June 20, 2026, to the National Energy Control Center (NECC), where he reviewed ongoing operations, grid monitoring across the country, and rising consumption indicators and load levels, which reached 36,600 megawatts at peak hours in recent days.
During the visit, he reviewed operational monitoring reports and the status of the electricity grid, covering generation, transmission, and distribution, over the past few days, which witnessed changes in loads and increased demand for electricity. He also reviewed operational scenarios and alternatives, as well as coordination among different components of the system nationwide to ensure the stability of the unified grid and continuity of supply.
The Minister reviewed operational patterns in light of the summer season and rising demand, directing the maximization of renewable energy use and greater reliance on it to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. He also assessed measures to improve the efficiency of generation units, operational patterns, and new renewable energy capacities, in addition to monitoring critical points across distribution networks.
The Minister discussed communication mechanisms between operation teams in the generation, transmission, and distribution sectors. He emphasized the importance of diverse communication tools and systems at different responsibility levels, alongside the use of modern technology to achieve reduced fuel consumption, ensure stable supply, and maintain grid stability.
Discussions also covered the responsibility of the National Energy Control Center in managing and implementing operating patterns, prioritizing high-efficiency units, and ensuring contingency scenarios and alternatives to address emergencies. They also addressed monitoring grid equipment conditions, rapid fault detection and repair, and predictive maintenance to prevent breakdowns, along with tracking dynamic data such as loads and voltages for rapid response to emergencies.
The minister stressed efforts to secure the national grid, ensure its stability, and monitor rising consumption and summer peak loads to guarantee quality electricity supply. He noted the adoption of a new operational pattern aimed at reducing fuel consumption while meeting electricity demand.
He also highlighted the readiness of the national grid to handle high loads caused by heat waves in the coming period, manage emergencies, and flexibly adjust generation capacity.
