Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat affirmed that Egyptian-Russian relations are historic, deeply rooted and built on decades of constructive cooperation in various fields, describing them as a model of strategic partnership that has entered a new phase of unprecedented development.
Speaking on behalf of the Egyptian government during celebrations marking Russia’s National Day at the Russian embassy in Cairo, Esmat said bilateral ties have witnessed a qualitative leap during the current decade, driven by the shared vision of the leaderships of both countries and founded on mutual respect for national sovereignty, common interests and support for the aspirations of the Egyptian and Russian peoples.
Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat noted that cooperation between Egypt and Russia has evolved into a comprehensive and sustainable development partnership encompassing a wide range of sectors, including industry, transportation, tourism, education and trade.
The minister stressed that the ambitions shared by the two countries continue to expand, expressing confidence that their longstanding partnership will further advance in a manner that serves the interests of both peoples. Esmat described the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant as more than a strategic agreement or a major infrastructure project, calling it a tangible success story and a landmark development achievement that will help secure Egypt’s energy needs for decades to come.
Mahmoud Esmat said the project serves as a catalyst for the technological and industrial development currently underway in Egypt under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, while also acting as a bridge for knowledge transfer and the development of young Egyptian talent in the field of peaceful nuclear energy.
The minister added that if the Aswan High Dam symbolized Egyptian-Soviet friendship in the 20th century, the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant represents a new symbol of the future and a testament to the depth of Egyptian-Russian partnership in the 21st century. The minister Mahmoud Esmat noted that the project, being implemented by the Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom, embodies the shared vision of the leaderships of both countries and reflects the strength and strategic nature of bilateral relations.
