Egypt’s El Marakby Steel has successfully commissioned a second Maerz PFR lime kiln at its Uni Lime subsidiary in Cairo, expanding its quicklime production capacity to support the steel industry and related sectors. The new kiln entered stable operation following commissioning in December 2025, marking the completion of the expansion project.

The investment follows the successful operation of the first Maerz kiln, which has been in service for more than five years. According to Maerz Ofenbau AG, the decision to install a second kiln was driven by the strong performance of the original unit and growing demand for high-quality quicklime in the Egyptian market.

El Marakby Steel is an Egyptian steel producer headquartered in 6th of October City. The company manufactures billets, rebar and wire rod, with a combined annual production capacity of 460,000 tons.
