Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam asserted that Egypt is working with its partners to develop initiatives addressing the sustainable management of green water, the use of artificial intelligence applications in hydrological forecasting and the integration of water issues into the three Rio Conventions.
He also highlighted efforts to strengthen cooperation on non-conventional water resources and transboundary water management. He explained that these initiatives, together with others being developed through the conference's interactive dialogues, represent an opportunity to build a legacy for the 2026 UN Water Conference and to strengthen the international framework for cooperation in the water sector.
The remarks came during Sewilam's address at the ministerial preparatory meeting for the 2026 UN Water Conference, organized by the UAE and Senegal. The meeting was attended by Egypt's Permanent Representative to the UN Ehab Awad. This is part of the minister's participation in the ministerial segment of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), held at UN headquarters in New York.
As co-chair of the third interactive dialogue "Water for the Planet," alongside Japan, Sewilam reviewed the latest progress in preparations for the dialogue and the conference, highlighting efforts to produce practical outcomes that support international action in the water sector.
He also welcomed the launch of the initiative submission track, describing it as an important opportunity to translate dialogue into concrete actions that will leave a sustainable legacy for the conference.
