Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom met on Thursday, October 1, 2026, with Namrata Thapar, World Bank Group Global Director for Metals and Minerals, to outline an integrated framework for advancing Egypt’s mining industry. Developed in collaboration with the World Bank (WB), the roadmap focuses on scaling up mineral development and elevating the sector’s overall GDP footprint, according to a statement by the Cabinet.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation to develop Egypt’s mining sector, attract private investment, and increase the value generated from the country’s mineral resources. Rostom said that Egypt is adopting policies to enable the private sector to exploit untapped natural resources, attract domestic and foreign investment, increase the added value of minerals, and create jobs as part of broader sustainable economic development efforts.
Thapar highlighted what she described as structural reforms undertaken by the Egyptian government to develop the mining sector. She said the World Bank is looking to deepen cooperation through technical assistance and capacity-building programs, as well as support for preparing an integrated roadmap covering mineral-resource development and related supply chains.
