Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom held talks with Sanda Ojiambo, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the UN Global Compact, to discuss expanding private sector participation in sustainable development and helping Egyptian startups enter global markets.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 2026 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The two sides reviewed the current cooperation between Egypt and the UN Global Compact, including private sector participation in preparing Egypt's fourth Voluntary National Review on the Sustainable Development Goals.
Discussions also addressed cooperation through the 2026 UN Private Sector Forum and the Global Africa Business Initiative (GABI), with a focus on supporting entrepreneurship, small and medium-sized enterprises, access to international markets, and financing opportunities.
Rostom also reviewed Egypt's National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, which provides startups with incubation programs, grants, and investment opportunities. The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue cooperation to support entrepreneurship, strengthen the private sector, and help Egyptian startups expand into regional and international markets.
