Egypt is considering establishing centers for issuing electronic seals and digital signatures across the country's governorates to facilitate services for government employees and reduce costs, Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk said on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Speaking at the inauguration of an upgraded data center at the government electronic certification authority, Kouchouk said the government also aims to launch a backup electronic signature exchange center to ensure the continuity of operations during emergencies.
He said the move forms part of Egypt's broader digital transformation strategy aiming at improving services for citizens and investors while strengthening the security of government electronic transactions. The head of the government electronic certification authority, Mohamed El Badry, said the upgraded center would support a number of key government systems, including the Nafeza foreign trade platform, electronic payment and collection systems, and digital services used by prosecution offices, courts and the New Capital.
The authority is the sole body authorized to issue electronic signature certificates for government employees under a license granted by Egypt's Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA).
