Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk participated Tuesday, October 6, 2026, in the opening of Fruit Attraction 2026 in Madrid, held from Oct. 6 to 8, alongside Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Luis Planas. The opening was attended by Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk and Egypt’s Ambassador to Spain Ehab Badawy, as well as Egyptian businessmen and exporters, senior officials, and representatives of major international companies specializing in the agricultural and export sectors.
Farouk toured the exhibition and the Egyptian pavilion to review the participation of Egyptian companies, which has expanded significantly this year with around 90 companies showcasing the quality of Egyptian agricultural products and the major advances achieved by the country’s agricultural sector.
The minister met with Egyptian and foreign exhibitors, investors and businesspeople and listened to their views on expanding exports and opening new markets. He underscored the importance of the exhibition in facilitating direct contact with customers and negotiations over contracts and export programs for the new season, particularly as the event takes place ahead of the start of the export season for Egyptian crops.
On the sidelines of the event, Farouk held bilateral meetings with a number of officials to discuss strengthening cooperation, exchanging expertise and facilitating agricultural trade between Egypt and Spain, as well as expanding opportunities for Egyptian agricultural products to access international markets.
He stressed the strategic importance of Fruit Attraction as one of the world’s largest specialized exhibitions for the fresh fruit and vegetable sector, highlighting its role in exchanging expertise, monitoring market developments and international competition, and learning about the latest production and packaging technologies.
Farouk noted the exhibition’s continued growth and strong international appeal, saying its previous edition attracted more than 120,000 visitors from 145 countries and around 2,200 exhibitors from 59 countries. The minister affirmed that the Egyptian state is committed to providing all forms of support to the private sector as a key partner in achieving sustainable agricultural development.
He said efforts are ongoing to improve the investment climate, noting that Egypt’s agricultural sector offers promising investment opportunities, particularly in agro-processing, modern agriculture, packaging, and expanding land reclamation, which would help maximize the added value of national products and enhance their competitiveness.
Farouk stressed that preserving the reputation of Egyptian agricultural products in international markets is a top priority for the ministry through the application of the highest standards of quality and coding and shipment traceability, along with strict implementation of phytosanitary procedures.
He also affirmed that efforts would continue to remove obstacles to exports and facilitate access to more promising markets across different continents. Cabinet launches website for “Egypt Forum 2026” Egypt sees major expansion in agricultural development projects
