Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk affirmed the ministry's keenness to strengthen bilateral cooperation with India in the areas of digitalization, infrastructure financing and climate action, as well as in advancing the development goals of both countries. He stressed the need to step up joint efforts with India to amplify the voice of the Global South and build a more balanced and equitable economic system.
Kouchouk made the remarks during a meeting with his Indian counterpart, Nirmala Sitharaman, on the sidelines of the BRICS meetings in India. He said Egypt looks forward to increasing trade and investment flows by opening up new and promising economic opportunities, inviting Indian companies to benefit from the investment opportunities and incentives Egypt offers to the private sector.
Kouchouk also highlighted the importance of exchanging expertise in developing tax and fiscal policies to stimulate economic activity. He added that Egypt is keen to build and train a new generation of young tax professionals through cooperation initiatives within BRICS.
The Minister further expressed hope for a greater role for the New Development Bank in providing concessional and low-cost financing that meets the development needs of emerging economies.
