Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hindi said artificial intelligence (AI) has become a key driver of economic competitiveness, development efforts and improved public services.He added that the second edition of Egypt's National AI Strategy (2025-2030) aims to maximize the benefits of AI technologies and enhance their economic and social impact.The minister made the remarks during a ceremony to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Intel, a global leader in computing and AI technologies, to cooperate on program to raise public awareness and build citizens' AI capabilities.The cooperation seeks to promote AI literacy and prepare national talent capable of developing and applying innovative solutions to support Egypt's digital transformation.Under the MoU, one million citizens will be trained annually over three years on AI concepts, safe and responsible technology use and digital trust.Hindi said cooperation with leading global AI companies is an important pillar in translating the strategy's objectives into programs that build national capabilities and enable citizens to benefit from AI applications.
He affirmed the ministry's commitment to raising public awareness of the safe and responsible use of AI and equipping citizens with the skills needed to meet the demands of the digital age. Intel's general manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa Gisselle Ruiz Lanza said the cooperation reflects a shared ambition to make AI accessible, practical and useful to everyone through the launch of the AI for Citizens initiative, one of Intel's digital programs.Hoda Baraka, the minister's adviser for technological skills development, said the partnership would expand awareness of AI's practical applications and enable different segments of society to understand and use the technology according to their needs.
She added that it would help establish a pool of qualified trainers capable of transferring knowledge and expanding the reach of AI programs, stressing the importance of combining training with awareness of responsible AI use rather than focusing solely on technical skills.Taha Khalifa, Intel's general manager for the Middle East and Africa, stressed the importance of expanding participation in the AI economy by equipping people with the skills and confidence needed to engage with AI technology.He said the cooperation would empower young people, teachers, companies and institutions to use AI to address real-world challenges.The training content will be made available through digital platforms to reach beneficiaries.Under the MoU, the parties will prepare a phased implementation plan for the agreed programs, starting with AI for Citizens.The cooperation also includes technical workshops and training on Intel's latest AI infrastructure and computing technologies, supporting national knowledge-building in infrastructure technologies.
It will further support the participation of outstanding individuals in an annual AI hackathon and prepare them to showcase their projects and innovations at Intel's global AI Impact Festival.
