Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk and Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, talks with a Chinese delegation comprising representatives of six Chinese companies to explore cooperation opportunities.
At the beginning of the meeting, the two ministers emphasized the depth of Egyptian-Chinese relations and highlighted the importance Egypt’s political leadership places on strengthening cooperation with China, particularly in development and investment sectors that support sustainable development goals.
Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk welcomed Chinese companies interested in investing and producing in Egypt, stressing the importance of exploring joint opportunities in agricultural production, supply chains, agro-industrial manufacturing, and exports to strengthen economic partnerships between both sides.
He pointed to the state's efforts to improve the investment climate and encourage investors, particularly in the agricultural sector. He affirmed that the Ministry of Agriculture is committed to providing all necessary support to Chinese companies and overcoming obstacles facing joint investments.
He also underscored the importance of transferring modern agricultural technologies and localizing the manufacture of agricultural inputs and advanced farming machinery in Egypt, which would help increase the productivity of strategic crops, reduce production costs, and open new avenues for expanding Egyptian agricultural exports to Asian and global markets.
Farouk stressed the importance of integrating Chinese smart technologies into land reclamation projects and the development of on-farm irrigation systems to optimize water use. He noted that cooperation with the Chinese side represents a strategic step toward supporting Egypt’s efforts to achieve sustainable food security and build strong partnerships with the private sector based on knowledge exchange and capacity building in smart agriculture and climate change adaptation.
For his part, Minister of Irrigation Sewilam affirmed that the ministry is keen to explore cooperation opportunities with serious Chinese companies, especially in areas related to water management, improving water resource management, maximizing water utilization, and supporting agricultural and development activities through partnership models that achieve mutual benefits and support the implementation of priority projects.
He added that partnerships with the private sector are among the key approaches for supporting the financing and implementation of projects, benefiting from modern technologies, expertise, and innovative solutions, thereby improving implementation efficiency, maximizing investment returns, and making the best use of available resources and capabilities.
Sewilam explained that the Ministry of Irrigation is open to studying various cooperation and investment opportunities with qualified companies within a clear framework of coordination among relevant authorities, while taking into account technical, economic, and environmental sustainability considerations and ensuring added value for both the state and investors.
The Chinese delegation expressed appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to strengthen cooperation with Chinese companies and affirmed their interest in studying investment and cooperation opportunities in Egypt.
