Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem on Thursday, July 9, 2026, discussed with a delegation of China's Jiangsu Changhong Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd. (Changhong Smart), led by Chairwoman Qiu Yunjie, the company's plans to establish a $20 million industrial complex in Egypt to support the country's automotive industry through smart manufacturing solutions.

The meeting was attended by Mohamed Samy, Assistant Minister for Strategic Affairs, Alaa Salah El-Din, head of the Automotive Unit at the Ministry of Industry, and other ministry officials. During the meeting, the Chinese company outlined plans to establish an advanced industrial complex based on the latest smart manufacturing technologies.

The project would provide integrated solutions for the automotive industry, including production-line equipment, intelligent industrial software systems, and consultancy services for factory planning and design, to strengthen Egypt's automotive manufacturing infrastructure.

Hashem said the automotive industry and its supporting industries are among the government's top priorities, adding that the ministry is implementing a comprehensive strategy to move beyond vehicle assembly to full-scale manufacturing, increase local content, and raise the value added of domestic industry.

He said the ministry is working to attract leading global automakers, as well as companies specializing in advanced manufacturing technologies, to help build an integrated industrial ecosystem and strengthen Egypt's position as a regional hub for automotive manufacturing and exports.

The minister said the government's efforts extend beyond establishing production projects to include technology transfer, building local capabilities, and training Egyptian professionals in industrial engineering, smart manufacturing, and digital transformation, describing human capital as a key pillar of sustainable industrial development.

Hashem said Egypt offers an attractive investment environment, citing its strategic geographic location, improving infrastructure, a network of trade agreements that provides Egyptian-made products with broad access to regional and international markets, and the availability of qualified engineering and technical talent that enhances the competitiveness of the country's industrial sector.

He reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to attracting investments in smart manufacturing and advanced industrial technologies to facilitate the transfer of global expertise, increase local content, and support the localization of high-value-added industries. For her part, Qiu said the company appreciates the progress achieved in Egypt's industrial sector and investment climate and is interested in expanding its presence in the Egyptian market through a long-term partnership focused on technology transfer, sharing technical expertise, and training local engineering talent.

She said Jiangsu Changhong aims to cooperate with academic institutions, research centers, and technology innovation hubs while leveraging artificial intelligence and digital transformation technologies to develop advanced industrial solutions that support the future of Egypt's manufacturing sector and enhance the competitiveness of its automotive industry.
