Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Issa on Thursday, August 20, 2026, discussed with a senior delegation from a leading Chinese aluminum group plans to invest up to 2 billion dollars in Egypt through an integrated industrial complex in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE).
The project is expected to create more than 3,000 job opportunities. The meeting, which took place at the government headquarters in New Alamein city, highlighted the strong and longstanding ties between Egypt and China and the significant growth in bilateral economic and investment cooperation in recent years.
During the meeting, Issa said that attracting and supporting foreign investment remains a key priority for the Egyptian government as part of efforts to promote comprehensive and sustainable economic development. The government is committed to removing obstacles facing investors and providing incentives and facilities to enhance the competitiveness of Egypt’s investment climate, the minister said.
Issa stressed the importance of ensuring that the proposed project contributes to the transfer of expertise and advanced technologies and relies on clean energy sources, in line with global trends toward sustainability and green industry. Meanwhile, the Chinese delegation expressed interest in expanding the group’s business in Egypt, citing the country’s strategic geographic location linking major global markets and the significant development of its infrastructure in recent years.
The delegation said the proposed industrial complex would help meet domestic market needs along with boosting exports, strengthening Egypt’s position as a leading regional manufacturing and export hub.
