Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk, held a meeting with CEO of OZK (United Grain Company) and Chairman of the Russian Union of Grain Exporters and Producers Mr. Dmitry Sergeev, during his participation in the 5th Russian Grain Forum held in Sochi, Russia from May 20-23, 2026.
The meeting discussed ways to enhance strategic cooperation between Egypt and Russia in the field of grain trade. The two sides reviewed mechanisms for signing long-term supply contracts for Russian wheat shipments, which will contribute to stabilizing Egypt's strategic supply chains.
This step underscores the state's efforts to build a secure and sustainable strategic reserve of essential commodities in light of current global changes. During the meeting, The minister Sherif Farouk emphasized the strength of Egyptian-Russian economic relations, particularly in the field of food security.
Sherif Farouk noted that Russia is one of the most important wheat suppliers to Egypt. Farouk explained that these discussions come in line with the directives of the political leadership in both countries to enhance economic cooperation, diversify supply sources, develop storage and transportation infrastructure, and explore opportunities for establishing a regional logistics hub for grain trade and storage at Egyptian ports.
