Egyptian Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk and Algerian Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries Yacine Oualid discussed on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, ways to strengthen cooperation and translate the two countries’ historic fraternal ties into tangible economic and investment partnerships in the agricultural sector.
During talks - on the sidelines of the 24th International Exhibition for Agriculture, Livestock and Agri-Food Industries in the Algerian capital as the two sides discussed mechanisms to enhance integration and exchange expertise in addressing regional challenges, especially climate change, water scarcity and sustainable food security - the Egyptian minister of agriculture reviewed Egypt’s experience in implementing major national projects to expand cultivated land, mainly the New Delta project and expressed Egypt’s preparedness to share its expertise in desert land reclamation, agricultural digitalization and modern irrigation systems with Algeria.
Farouk also offered cooperation in providing high-yield and drought-resistant seeds. The two ministers also explored opportunities for cooperation and expertise exchange in improving livestock breeds and developing and producing veterinary vaccines, in addition to promoting partnerships and investment between business communities in both countries, especially in agricultural manufacturing to build strong regional supply chains.
They further discussed measures to accelerate bilateral trade in agricultural commodities and products and simplify quarantine and customs procedures, while pledging to provide all necessary facilities for investors from both sides to establish joint agricultural and industrial projects.
The ministers stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation between Egypt and Algeria in line with the vision of the political leadership in both countries, particularly amid current global challenges that require close coordination. They said the coming period would witness swift implementation steps to activate all agreed areas of cooperation in a way that supports sustainable development and the welfare of both peoples.
