CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA) Magdy Ismail said Egypt is working to establish an integrated system that transforms satellite data into actionable information and smart solutions to support decision-making and advance development in various sectors. Ismail made the remarks during his participation in the China-Africa Cooperation Week on Satellite Data Applications (CACSA Week 2026), held recently in Beijing, with the participation of representatives from 22 African countries, as well as Chinese governmental, research and academic institutions specializing in satellite technology, Earth observation and space-data analysis.He highlighted the significance of the "MisrSat-2" satellite in strengthening Egypt’s national capabilities in Earth observation, describing it as an important step toward expanding the country’s ability to utilize satellite data for development and decision-making.
Ismail also stressed the importance of Egyptian-Chinese cooperation in space technology, noting that the partnership has contributed to the exchange of expertise, technological development and capacity building, while promoting the practical use of satellite data in support of sustainable development.During the event, Ahmed El-Shal, Director of the Earth Observation Data Processing Department, presented the Egyptian Space Agency’s capabilities and outlined the role of the National Space Data Center in processing and analyzing satellite data.El-Shal also highlighted the use of artificial intelligence and big-data technologies to develop practical applications based on satellite imagery and data, supporting development planning and decision-making.The Egyptian Space Agency held discussions with Chinese institutions and African delegations on expanding cooperation in satellite data, artificial intelligence and capacity building.The discussions focused on developing practical applications for satellite data and enhancing its use across a range of development sectors.The event also featured the exchange of commemorative shields between the Egyptian Space Agency representative, the Chinese Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and the head of the Remote Sensing Application Center of the Chinese Ministry of Natural Resources.Egypt’s participation in CACSA Week 2026 comes as part of its efforts to expand international cooperation in space technology, strengthen its role in African space cooperation, and translate partnership opportunities into practical technical and training programs as well as applicable satellite-data services.
