Egypt’s manufacturing and extractive industries index rose by 6.6% in March 2026, according to preliminary data released on Sunday, May 24, 2026, by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS). The agency said the industrial production index for manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, reached 128.14 in March 2026, compared to 120.21 in February 2026.
CAPMAS noted that the food products industry recorded a significant increase, with its index climbing to 181.21 in March from 149.08 in February, marking a 21.55% rise. The agency attributed the growth to higher production levels driven by seasonal demand and holiday-related consumption.
The chemicals and chemical products industry also posted strong gains. Its index rose to 119.38 in March, compared with 101.89 in February, reflecting an increase of 17.17%. CAPMAS said the rise was linked to efforts to meet market demand.
