Egypt ranked first in Africa in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) for the fourth consecutive year, according to the World Investment Report 2026 issued by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the Cabinet's Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) said on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
In an infographic published on its social media platforms, the center said Egypt attracted FDI inflows totaling USD 15.5 billion in 2025, maintaining its position as the continent's leading investment destination. According to the UNCTAD report, Guinea ranked second with USD 7.8 billion in FDI inflows, followed by Mozambique with USD 5.7 billion, Nigeria with USD 4 billion, and Ethiopia with USD 3.8 billion.
Uganda attracted USD 3.4 billion, Morocco USD 3.3 billion, Kenya USD 3.2 billion, Côte d'Ivoire USD 2 billion, while Ghana and the Democratic Republic of Congo each recorded USD 1.9 billion. Tanzania attracted USD 1.7 billion and Algeria USD 1.5 billion, the report added.
The Cabinet said Egypt's continued leadership in attracting FDI reflects growing investor confidence in the Egyptian economy, supported by structural reforms, infrastructure development and the implementation of major national projects that have enhanced the country's competitiveness and investment appeal.
UNCTAD also highlighted Egypt among the countries that have successfully attracted investments linked to the restructuring of traditional industries, reinforcing its position as an alternative manufacturing base, an industrial processing hub and a gateway to major markets, the statement added.
