The Cabinet Media Center on Sunday, May 24, 2026, denied reports circulating on social media claiming the government plans to issue a new EGP 10,000 banknote. In a statement posted on its social media platforms, the center said it has contacted the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), which confirmed that no decisions have been made in this regard.
It added that there are currently no plans or studies related to issuing such a denomination or introducing any new paper or polymer banknotes beyond those already in circulation in the Egyptian market. The central bank added that the EGP 200 note remains the highest paper currency denomination currently in circulation in Egypt.
Existing paper banknotes include EGP 1, EGP 5, EGP 10, EGP 20, EGP 50, EGP 100 and EGP 200, while polymer banknotes are available in EGP 10 and EGP 20 denominations. The center urged citizens not to be misled by false information aimed at stirring public opinion and to seek information from reliable sources.
