The Cabinet approved on Thursday July 30, 2026 a draft presidential decree endorsing a government agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to help finance the expansion and modernization of Egypt's electricity transmission network, including grant-funded technical assistance.
The project aims to expand and upgrade the national electricity transmission grid through the construction of new transformer substations and the installation of advanced transmission lines, enabling greater integration of renewable energy sources into the national grid.
The Cabinet also approved the organization of an international exhibition titled Egypt's Sunken Cities – Isis at the Field Museum in Chicago, United States, from February 20 to September 19, 2027, excluding packing, transport and shipping periods. The exhibition will feature 275 archaeological artifacts.
In addition, ministers approved the signing of a power purchase agreement between the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company and UAE-based Alcazar Energy for electricity generated from the company's planned 407-megawatt wind farm in Zafarana under the build-own-operate (BOO) model.
The Cabinet also approved the signing of a land usufruct agreement between the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) and Alcazar Energy, in accordance with the regulatory framework issued under Cabinet Decision No. 54 of 2023.
