Minister of Transport Kamel el Wazir said on Saturday, September 19, 2026, that the expansion of Arish seaport will support industrial and agricultural development in Sinai, increase exports and improve access to international markets. These remarks came during the minister's inspection tour of development work at the port, the only Mediterranean seaport in North Sinai.
He said that the expansion will allow the port to handle more goods from Sinai, including cement, sand, salt and marble, while supporting industrial and agricultural areas and creating jobs in North Sinai. The first stage of marine works has been completed, including a 1,250-meter main breakwater, the 250-meter Sinai quay and the 915-meter Tahya Misr quay.
Construction of a 1,000-meter tourist quay has also been completed. Work on administrative and service facilities is 50% complete, while the second phase, covering the eastern basin, has reached 33.6%. It includes 1,908 meters of new quays and additional breakwaters.
The port will also have four cement silos with a combined capacity of 40,000 tons to support exports to international markets. El Wazir stated that Arish Port is part of the Arish-Taba logistics corridor, connecting the Mediterranean with Taba Port on the Gulf of Aqaba through industrial areas in central Sinai.
The corridor is one of eight logistics corridors under development in Egypt to connect industrial, agricultural and mining areas with seaports, dry ports and logistics centers. A 12-kilometer railway link is also planned between Arish Port and the Bir Al-Abd-Arish-Taba railway route, connecting the port with Egypt’s wider rail network and supporting the movement of imports and exports.
