Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk and Egypt’s newly appointed Ambassador to Iraq Ahmed Khafagy discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in agriculture, expand investment opportunities and boost trade between the two countries.At the meeting, Farouk congratulated Khafagy on assuming his new post and wished him success in his diplomatic mission, stressing the longstanding historic and fraternal ties between Egypt and Iraq.Farouk affirmed the ministry’s readiness to provide Iraq with technical support and share Egyptian expertise in land reclamation, modern irrigation systems, plant breeding and agricultural research, in line with the priorities of both countries.The talks also covered measures to remove obstacles hindering trade in agricultural commodities and products and accelerate agricultural and veterinary quarantine procedures to facilitate the flow of agricultural exports.The two sides discussed opening new opportunities for Egyptian investment in Iraq’s agricultural sector and activating memorandums of understanding signed between the two countries.Khafagy, for his part, praised the major progress achieved by Egypt’s agricultural sector, stressing his keenness to advance bilateral cooperation and serve as an effective link between Cairo and Baghdad to strengthen their economic and agricultural partnership and serve the interests of both countries.
