The second phase of the Cairo Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system kicked off Saturday, September 26, 2026, running from the Ain Sokhna Road station to the Sun Capital station, with passengers beginning to arrive at the newly opened stations. The second phase comprises 16 stations, including the Marshal Tantawy and Golf stations, which had previously entered service.
The two stations serve residents and visitors to New Cairo and provide direct connections to the East Nile Monorail, as well as integration with the Marshal Tantawy Axis. The phase includes stations at Ain Sokhna Road, Maadi, Mokattam, Algeria, Al-Imamayn, Zahraa, El-Bahr El-Azam, Omraniya, Talbiya, Mariouteya and Sun Capital.
The Zahraa El Maadi, Autostrad and Mansouriya stations will be brought into service successively over the coming period. With the launch of the second phase, the BRT network now extends from the intersection of the Ring Road with the Alexandria Agricultural Road to Sun Capital, covering about 75 km and forming one of the main corridors of the modern mass-transit system serving Greater Cairo.
The Sun Capital station is an integrated transport hub covering 80,000 square meters and is one of the project’s key stations because of its strategic location at the intersection of the Ring Road and Fayoum Road. The station serves commuters using the Fayoum Desert Road and marks the endpoint of the BRT service in this phase.
It also provides an integrated model for connecting different modes of transportation along the Ring Road. The station includes a charging and maintenance facility for BRT buses equipped with 21 chargers. It also houses a passenger service building for SuperJet and passenger transport companies affiliated with the Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport, serving Upper Egypt governorates due to its location at the beginning of Fayoum Road and the Western Upper Egypt Desert Road.
Commercial and service areas have also been established to serve passengers, making Sun Capital an integrated transport hub facilitating transfers between different modes of transportation. The BRT project links a number of major intersections and corridors along the Ring Road, including the Suez Road, Adly Mansour, Marg and Mostorod intersections.
