Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) is moving ahead with a comprehensive renovation program that will see ongoing repairs carried out at 28 railway stations throughout 2024, with a major overhaul of the Astana railway station set to begin. The works will address engineering infrastructure, entrance lobbies, roof coverings, and passenger platforms, aiming to improve both safety and passenger flow. During the renovation, the Astana station will continue serving customers without interruption, though certain areas of the facility will be temporarily restricted for construction activities.
The commissioning date for the Astana overhaul will be confirmed once a contract for the construction and installation works is finalized with the selected contractor. The scope of work includes replacement of roofing, restoration of the façade, refurbishment of interior spaces, and renewal of passenger platform structures.
In parallel, KTZ plans to modernize existing public address systems, video surveillance, fire alarms, and security alerting devices across the 28 stations. Engineering systems such as electrical, water, and HVAC will be upgraded or replaced as part of the initiative.
Additional improvements will extend to the station surroundings, including landscaping and parking areas. Accessibility is a priority; all stations undergoing repairs will be equipped with barrier‑free pathways and facilities to accommodate passengers with reduced mobility.
The 2024 renovation program reflects KTZ's strategy to enhance the reliability and comfort of rail services, supporting both passenger and freight operations across Kazakhstan's extensive rail network.
