The 230th humanitarian aid convoy "Zad Al-Ezza... From Egypt to Gaza," entered into the Gaza Strip on Wednesday through the auxiliary gate of Rafah Land Port toward the Karam Abu Salem crossing. An official source at the Egyptian Red Crescent said the convoy's trucks are carrying large quantities of humanitarian and food aid, including food supplies, food baskets, flour, fresh bread, legumes, canned food, medicines, personal hygiene items, tents, clothing and petroleum products.
Israeli authorities closed the crossings connecting Gaza on March 2, 2025, following the expiration of the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and the failure to reach a deal to extend the truce. Israel resumed intensive airstrikes on March 18, 2025, and launched renewed ground operations in several areas of the Strip from which its forces had previously withdrawn.
Israeli authorities also blocked the entry of humanitarian aid trucks, fuel and shelter supplies for displaced Palestinians whose homes had been destroyed during the war, while refusing to allow the entry of heavy equipment needed for debris removal and reconstruction.
Humanitarian aid deliveries resumed in May 2025 under a mechanism implemented by Israeli authorities and a US security company, despite objections from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which said the arrangement was inconsistent with the established international mechanism for aid distribution.
The Israeli military later announced a temporary 10-hour humanitarian pause on July 27, 2025, suspending military operations in parts of Gaza to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance. Mediators — Egypt, Qatar and the US — continued efforts to broker a comprehensive ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement.
Those efforts culminated in an agreement reached on October 9, 2025, between Hamas and Israel on the first phase of a ceasefire plan proposed by US President Donald Trump during the Sharm El Sheikh summit, with Egyptian, American and Qatari mediation and Turkish support.
The second phase of the agreement entered into force on February 2, 2026, following the completion of prisoner exchanges and the handover of the remains of the last Israeli hostage under the first phase. The agreement allowed Palestinians to return to Gaza and enabled wounded and injured Palestinians to leave the enclave for medical treatment in Egyptian hospitals after the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing was reopened.
